Sleepover with 7th grade in Základní škola Nové Město nad Metují

At the 15th of December the 7th grade had a sleepover in school. They prepared some Christmas crafts and food for selling at the school Christmas market in the afternoon. Ineta and I helped them with the crafts and preparing some snacks for the evening. Then I prepared with them also a healthy dinner as part of my miniproject-“Take care of you and your world”. We cooked together “Chilli sin Carne”, which is a stew out of beans and vegetables in tomato sauce. The students enjoyed the cooking, but for some it was in the end a bit too spicy. After the dinner we played with the students some games like hide and seek. All in all, it was a really funny afternoon and evening with the students 🙂

And here the recipe for all who are interested:

Ingredients (4 portions):

  • 1 big onion
  • 1 red pepper
  • 2-3 carrots
  • 400g kidney beans
  • 250g maize
  • 200g tomato paste
  • 500ml vegetable broth
  • 100g cherry tomatoes
  • Chilli, garlic, herbs, salt and pepper
  • Oil for frying

  3. Now pour the vegetable broth on and add the kidney beans and maize.
  4. Let it cook for 5 minutes.

Feel free in changing the ingredients with things you like, for example you can also add Tofu or change the vegetables!

Healthy cooking with children in Základní škola Nové Město nad Metují (part 1)

Every Wednesday there is a cooking club in Komenskeho school in Nové Město nad Metují for little children, which I join every second week. On 2nd of November I could prepare a recipe for the club. I decided to do something easy and healthy, which is also new for them – a Buckwheat salad. You just mix for it cooked Buckwheat and salad, cucumber, tomatoes, Balkan cheese, spices (basil, pepper, salt), oil and vinegar together. So I prepared the Buckwheat and the children could cut the vegetables and cheese and mix in the end the ingredients. In the end I just added the spices, oil and vinegar to show them how much they need when they do it on their own and how it should taste. The children really liked this dish and were curious in it, because it was something new for them. It was also part of my Miniproject – take care of you and your world which is about showing the students a healthy and environmentalfriendly lifestyle with fun.

School excursion to Ammann of Základní škola Nové Město nad Metují

On the 5th of October was a school excursion to company “Ammann” in Nove Mesto nad Metuji for the 7th grade. The students got a look at the work of “Ammann” and it was really interesting for them to see how a big company is structured. They even could drive with a roller which was the funniest part of the excursion. Moreover the staff gave us the basic information in English which was really nice. For the students they prepared questions about the presentation of the beginning which were honoured with prices like caps and memory sticks.

My everyday tasks

(Felicitas, Dolni Radechova)

Today I want to give a general overview of my everyday activities. What I do exactly, I want to write in seperate blog posts.

For instance I help the teachers in the lessons. In English, we sometimes divide the class in two groups, I’m with one group and the teacher is with the other. In a circle, we practice pronunciation or do tasks like forming „Do or Does” Questions. In the lessons I also walk around and support children who need help individually. Sometimes I also prepare own activities at home. In maths I correct the tasks of the children.

Another main task is to help the school pedagogue preparing activities, for example for Thursdays, where is an English learning activity in the after school club or for Fridays, for the special activity. Here I can often become very creative, because usually I have to draw or design something, but sometimes I also cut things out or  write a text. It is always something different.

In the after school club I play with the children. For example I draw for and with them or play board games, but they have a lot of ideas and games so it is often something new.

I am also active at school events like Halloween or Christmas.
